When peterson had gone, Holmes said ‘Watson, if henry Baker come this evening, wll give him a simple tedt.

‘what kind of test? I asked.

‘ a test to see if he knows anything abour the blue carbuncle’. Answerd Holmes.’ But meanwhile we must wait.

I had some work to do, so I went out. But at about halfastsix I returned to baker street. A tall man was waiting outside Holmes’s apartement. We went insied together. Good evening watson,’ said Holmes. And you sir – are you  Mr Henry Baker?

Yes,’ said the man. I’m henry Baker. i read your advertisment-the advertisment about the hat and goose.’

Please sit down, mr Baker,’ said holmes. He pointed at the black  hat on the chair . ‘ it this your hat?

‘ yes said  the man’

Excellent! Cried Holnies. ‘ but  l’m sorry about  your goose, we hat to eat it

‘you’ve eaten it!’ the man rose from his chair  excitedly. Yes we had to eat the goose beforethe meat went bed. But we’ve bought  a fresh goose for you. It’s ofer there on the desk.  We stell have  te fathers legs and head of you goose. Do you want take these things?

Henry Baker  began to laugh. No thank you ‘ he said. ‘ these things are no use to me. All be very  happy to take the other goose.  Thank you very much. Good said Holmes’. Well here’s  your had and  your goose . by the way , the first goose was very delicious. Where did you buy it?’ well replied henry Baker, I got  it from Mr Windigate, land – lord  of the alpha inn, near the british Museum. Mr Windigate ran a “ goose club “ for his customers.’ What’s a goose club? I asked. Well replied henry Baker, a goose  is very expensive, you know.  And a goose club is a way of saving money to buy  a goose at chritsmas. Each member of the goose club paid Mr Windigate a vew fance  every week.  Mr Windigate  collected the money  week  by week. By christmas, there was enough money to buy a goose for everybody  in the club. Mr Windigate bought the Geese. So each member of the club had a goose to eat on christmas day.’  When Henry Baker had gone, holmes said , well Watson, Henry Baker know  nothing about the blue Carbuncle. He wasn’t  interested in the goose  he lost. He only wanted a goose  to eat. He was happy to take this other goose.  So what do we do now? I asked.  Henry baker told us  his goose came form Mr Windigate of the Alpha inn,’ Holmes replied. “ now  we must go and see Mr Windigate. We must ask him some question abaout this goose. Come on!.
